Mystery Picture

Look at the picture and try to figure out what it is. The solution is at the bottom of the page.

Top Picture

Dyslexic people typically write stories with bizarre spellings. Often they will resort to writing stories with only words that they are familiar with, so the resulting work is not a true reflection of what they want to say.

Here is a story written by an 11 year old dyslexic boy.

The story shows a vivid imagination, with attention to detail. It was written for people who accepted it how he had written it and then helped him to produce the version below.

It’s Another True Story

Once upon a time there was a mental home on the other side of Clent. Two American tourists were visiting England when they were passing through Clent. The radio was on “d….d….. “ The newsflash on the radio it said there was a mental man, which had escaped from the mental home and the man shouldn’t be approached. The man said on the radio. I reckon that they thought that it was no big deal because it happens in America a lot.

It was 1.16 a.m. when they stopped the car and looked out of the window at the light of the stars, but when they tried to start the car it went strange. The man said to his girlfriend, “I am going to get some gas.” After a while she went to sleep.

A bit later she woke up, but she was semi-conscious and the thing that had woken her up was banging on the roof, but she couldn’t hear how loud it was. It went Bang, Bang, Bang. She just went back to sleep.

It happened again, exactly the same. It went Bang, Bang, Bang on the roof. Again she went back to sleep.

She was woken when a tapping sound on the window. There were flashing lights. It was the village police. She rolled the window down and the police man said, “Walk to the police car and don’t look back mam.”

But everyone has an urge to and she did. What she saw was the American man’s head, skewered by the mental man.

The young man who wrote this persevered, never lost faith in himself, never lost his sense of humour and with the support of his family and people who believed in him, he now works in the design department of a leading car manufacturer.

Mystery Picture Solution

When you look at the top picture you cannot distinguish much. Looking at the second picture a cow is clearly visible.

Bottom Picture

Dyslexia has a lot to do with perception and memory of experiences. Dyslexic people perceive or see things differently but can be trained, through experiences, to perceive things correctly.

Now look back at the top picture – when you can see the cow, you have completed the exercise in perception.
